Egypt's Health and Population Minister Hala Zayed announced on Wednesday the plan set to be carried out by her ministry nationwide during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, which runs for almost a week.

Spokesman for the ministry Khaled Megahed said that 2,190 ambulances will be deployed to highways and major streets across the country.

Also, 11 ambulance boats will be readied to be deployed during any emergency.

He also said that public and central hospitals have been placed on high alert and medical teams will be available round the clock to handle any emergencies.

He noted that the crisis management room of the ministry will follow up on the implementation of the plan during the holiday.

Megahed urged citizens to strictly adhere to all standard preemptive and protective health measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Last Wednesday, the cabinet issued a list of strict precautionary measures to combat the recent spike in coronavirus infections in the country.

The new measures are taking effect from 6 to 21 May, including during the Eid El-Fitr holidays, which start on Thursday and run for five days.

The measures include the closure of all shops and restaurants at 9pm as well as the closure of all public parks and beaches.
