Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed on Friday with his Tunisian counterpart Othman Jerandi the preparations for the UN Security Council meeting, scheduled for Sunday, to tackle developments in the Palestinian territories, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

During the telephone call Shoukry received from Jerandi, the two high officials discussed the means to bring to an immediate halt hostilities in the Gaza Strip to be brought up at the UN meeting, the ministry stated.

Shoukry hailed Tunisia's role in the UN Security Council and lauded the position adopted by the Arab League during its extraordinary meeting for Arab foreign ministers which was held on Tuesday to discuss the Palestinian crisis.

Tunisia is currently the only Arab member out of the 10 elected and non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.
