Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani arrived in Cairo on Monday for a two-day visit as part of a regional tour.

Bin Jassim is expected to meet with a number of Egyptian officials, including Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, to discuss ways to boost cooperation between Egypt and Qatar after the resumption of relations between Cairo and Doha in January 2021 during the Al-Ula agreement.

The Al-Ula agreement ended a diplomatic and travel boycott by the Arab Quartet — Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain — on Doha since June 2017.

This is the first visit of its kind by Qatar’s top diplomat since the boycott.

Shoukry and bin Jassim previously in Cairo but on the sidelines of the League of Arab States’ meeting in March.

As side from Egyptian-Qatari relations, it is expected that the two ministers will discuss other regional issues including the situation in Palestine, Libya and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

The Qatari foreign minister has already visited Khartoum and Tripoli before his stop in Cairo, where he discussed the latest developments in both countries.
