Egypt detected 1,119 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, bringing total cases nationwide since the outbreak last year to 260,659.

The health ministry reported 51 deaths, bringing total fatalities to 15,009.

The ministry said 479 patients have been discharged from hospitals nationwide following recovery in the past 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to 191,457.

The country's anti-coronavirus measures, which were introduced earlier this month, in an effort to contain the pandemic's third wave, will expire on Monday.

The measures include the closure at 9pm of shops, malls, coffee shops, restaurants, and movie theatres, as well as the banning of public activities nationwide.

It is unclear whether or not the government will extend the measure as the country's daily infection tolls are still above the 1000-threshold.
