Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel conveyed President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s support to the Palestinians and their leaders during his visit to Gaza on Monday.
Kamel met with Palestinian leaders and factions where he conveyed a message from President El-Sisi calling for an end to the Palestinian divisions.
El-Sisi affirmed the necessity of unifying the Palestinian internal front under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Egyptian president also called upon regional and international powers to support Egypt’s efforts in Gaza’s reconstruction.
El-Sisi also affirmed Egypt’s effort to stabilise the Israeli-Palestinian ceasefire and pave the way for a resumption of the peace process in cooperation with international powers, headed by the United States.
The leaders of Palestinian factions and national powers stressed respect for Egypt’s leading and historical role in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people.
They also expressed their gratitude to the Egyptian president for the efforts exerted to support Palestinians’ rights.
Kamel also inspected the suggested sites in Gaza Strip for the reconstruction process.
The presidential initiative for the reconstruction of Gaza came a few days after an Egypt-brokered ceasefire came into effect in the strip on 21 May, halting 11 days of Israeli airstrikes.
The Israeli aggression on the enclave destroyed hundreds of homes and displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians.
A total of 56 trucks carrying humanitarian aid have arrived on Monday in the Gaza Strip as a gift from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian people
The state-owned Tahya Misr Fund has already sent three convoys carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza over the past week.
The third batch was delivered to Gaza on Sunday evening carrying 500 tons of food supplies and electricity tools.
The total aid delivered by the three convoys is estimated at more than 4,000 tons.
The three convoys were sent as per El-Sisi’s directives and initiative for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
