EFA confirms Egyptian Premier League won't be canceled, last game to be played late August

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Monday that they have no intent to cancel the Egyptian Premier League season, as they plan to finish the current season before the end of August.

Reports in the Egyptian media claimed that the 2020-21 League season is expected to be canceled due to the length of the remaining schedule, as it still in the 25th matchday with teams having postponed games in hands.

The EFA board members held a meeting on Monday, with the Association's boss Ahmed Megahed confirming they are doing their best to complete the current season of the Egyptian League.

"There are expectations that the League could be finished before the end of August," EFA boss Ahmed Megahed said in a statement.

"The Egyptian Premier League teams promised to help the EFA finish the League early to give a chance for the participants to have a break before starting the new season," he added.

Zamalek are in the driving seat of the Egyptian Premier League table with 55 points after playing 25 games so far this season, 12 points ahead of title holders Ahly who can pull clear if they win their six matches in hand.
