It is a shame that acts of violence against women continue to thwart their freedom and advancement. Hear from the experts as they share their views on developing effective legal reform to prevent violence against women. Moderator of the talk is Nevine Ebeid, Researcher in Development and Gender Issues; Chair, New Woman Foundation, speakers: Soraya Bahgat '06, Consultant and Advocate for Women and Girls, Esther Waweru, Senior Legal Advisor Legal Equality, Equality Now, and Azza Soliman, Lawyer; Human Rights Defender; Founder, Centre for Egyptian Women’s Legal Assistance. Mon 17, 7-8pm (GMT+2): “Humanitarian Logistics,” join this webinar of the Gerhart Centre Webinar Series featuring Wojciech Piotrowicz, director of HUMLOG Institute and associate professor at Hanken School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland. As an associate professor in supply chain management and social responsibility, Piotrowicz’s research is focused on supply chain, technology and performance metrics in various contexts, such as retail, including omnichannel, humanitarian and manufacturing. Thurs 10, 8pm: “A Taste for Books”, an exceptional literary meeting with Maylis de Kerangal, a major figure in contemporary French literature. She is the author of several books that have marked our time and won numerous awards, such as Corniche KennedyBirth of a Bridge and Repairing the Living. It is translated into Arabic and published in Egypt by Dar Afaq. In this meeting, the author will encounter Egyptian writer May Telmissany and her translators Rawya Sadek and Shady El-Hosseini. She will read excerpts from her latest book, Canoës.

Thurs 17, 7-8pm: “Music and Psychology”, an online debate café on the impact of music on our daily life, on our moods and on our emotions. It’s held on the occasion of the music festival. Italian Cultural Institute 

Italy is celebrating the 700th death anniversary of Dante Alighieri, from 12 March to 4 July 2021. On the occasion of Dante’s anniversary, the deadline for the competition for schools and universities extended to 17 June, for more information, go to the IIC website. Also, the Italian Institute continues to post videos in Arabic with translations from Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece The Divine Comedy to bring the Arab-speaking public closer to the work of the supreme poet. Videos are directed by Giabluca Barbadori, with the special participation of Ashraf Farouk, Amir Salaheddin, Sherine Hegazy, and Sara El-Mokadem.
