Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane lavished praise on his players following a precious 1-0 away victory over Tunisia's Esperance in the African Champions League semi-final first leg but said they must keep their feet on the ground.

A second-half goal from Mohamed Sherif gave defending champions Ahly a first-leg advantage before they host Esperance in the second leg in Cairo next Saturday.

Sherif ran onto a through ball from Aliou Dieng to break the offside trap and score on the second attempt after his initial effort came back off the post.

"Thanks God, It's not over as we still have another match that we need to finish, but very good the boys are brave," Mosimane said in a video posted by Ahly's official Facebook page.

Ahly skipper and veteran goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi echoed Mosimane's sentiment, saying his side need to complete their mission before celebrating.

"We still have another game, after which we can celebrate," he said.

Ahly are bidding for a second consecutive Champions League title and a record-extending 10th crown.
