Renowned Egyptian film producer and filmmaker Hany Guirguis Fawzy died in the early hours of 20 June 2021.
Son of well-known producer Guirguis Fawzy, Hany worked on several films in the 1990s and 2000s. The films that he produced include ‘Hassan Ellol’ (1997), ‘Al-Imbratora’ (1999), ‘Balad Al-Banat’ (2008), among many others.
He also directed a few films in the 1980s, such as ‘Bokra Ahla Men Al-Naharda’ and ‘The Age of Love and Harem Cage’ in 1986, along with ‘Uncensored’ (‘Bedoun Reqaba’), which was released in 2009 and proved to be a great success in the box office.
The success came despite Hany deciding not to promote the film on satellite television due to the controversial scenes it included. Moreover, the censorship regulating bodies deleted several scenes from the movie, classifying it as suitable for adult audiences only.
Undeniably, Hany’s films were characterised with a bold approach to subject matters while presenting appealing content.
His last work as a director was ‘Garsoniera’ in 2013, starring Ghada Abdel-Razek, Nedal El-Shafeay, and Manzer Reyahna.
