Egypt cooperating with US HUMVEE manufacturer to locally build tactical vehicles

Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this week with the US HUMVEE manufacturer AM General to set up a production line for tactical vehicles in Egypt, the US embassy in Cairo announced on Wednesday.

According to AM General, this collaboration aims to build tactical vehicles and “help facilitate the development of a domestic military automobile industry” in Egypt.

Morsi said during the ceremony that the deal comes as part of the ministry's efforts to support local manufacturing and promote the use of modern technologies domestically, in addition to exchanging expertise with global companies in various fields.

He also invited the US Company to take part in the EDEX 2021 exhibition, which will be held in Egypt in late November.

“We look forward to applying our manufacturing and design expertise to help grow the Egyptian automotive industry,” Andy Hove, AM General President and CEO, said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

“Today’s signing ceremony further solidifies our long-standing relationship with the government of Egypt,” Hove said.

Together with the Egyptian ministry, the AM General statement said, the company will study the feasibility of developing an in-country assembly and manufacturing capability which will enable the ministry replace and/or supplement its existing HUMVEE fleet. The study will result in the development of a detailed plan to move forward with partnership agreement.
