Chairman of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Ahmed Megahed announced on Thursday that the ongoing season of the Egyptian Premier League will end on 26 August.
"We have no intention to postpone any game in the Egyptian Premier League, but we may move back some matches," Megahed said on TV.
"The day after the Egyptian Premier League ends, the players' registration for the new season will open," he added.
"The new season will start in mid-September," stated Megahed.
"We intend to play 15 or 16 weeks from the next season of the Egyptian Premier League before starting the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
"Our target is to finish the new season before June 2022 as the FIFA World Cup will kick off in November so we have to prepare well for the event," Megahed said.
Zamalek are in the driving seat of the Egyptian Premier League table with 58 points after playing 26 games so far this season, 17 points ahead of title holders Ahly who can pull clear if they win their seven matches in hand.
