Billionaire and patriarch of Egypt's wealthiest family Onsi Sawiris died on Tuesday at the age of 91, Coptic official Sherif Doss announced on Facebook.

Engineer Onsi Sawiris is the father of the famous Egyptian businessmen Naguib, Nassef, and Samih Sawiris and the founder of the Orascom conglomerate.

The three billionaire sons are running the business of the construction, tourism, telecommunications, technology, and industry companies of the conglomerate.

According to Forbes, the real time net worth of Onsi Sawiris is estimated at $993.8 million.

In cooperation with his sons, Onsi’s Orascom conglomerate has developed its business into Global Telecom Holding S.A.E., Orascom Development Egypt, and Orascom Construction.

The Orascom Construction company has implemented numerous projects in Egypt in partnership with international companies.

Onsi was the chairman of Orascom Construction, Orascom Trading Co, and Orascom Technology Solutions. He was also the honorary chairman of Mobinil, currently known as Orange Egypt.

Onsi was a member of the Board of Directors of Global Telecom Holding S.A.E. and Orascom Hotels.

He was the chairman of the board of directors of Chartis Egypt Insurance Co, the Young Men Christians Association (YMCA) in Cairo, and the Egyptian Scandinavian Businessmen Association.
