“Coming Together”, a dual exhibition of paintings by Georges Bahgory and Jordanian artist Fady Dawoud, is currently showing at Picasso gallery in Zamalek.

The exhibition brings together two artists belonging to two completely different generations, the senior Georges Bahgory and the younger Jordanian Fady Dawoud, who has matured artistically. Bahgory shows watercolours, mostly completed in 1996, in addition to some older works. Bahgory started his life as a cartoonist in Egyptian magazines and excelled with his distinguished style, during which time he dealt with many issues.

Influenced by these caricature experiments, he began drawing the children of the neighborhood, who play and stand outside houses. Bahgory travelled to Paris hoping to enrich his experience and present it to the world, and his success was unparalleled as he made thousands of drawings and sketches, and his works received critical acclaim. Sometimes he enriches the surface of the painting with thick colour pastes, but at other times he makes his point with soft, thin colours; he sees in the dark forms of his characters a meaning conveyed by a specific expression. On every visit to Egypt, the Paris-based artist gives an exhibition and meets with his friends to discuss the most recent techniques and ideas. The artist gave dozens of exhibitions all over the world, for which he won many prizes, including the first international prize for caricature in Rome in 1985 and 1987.

The exhibition is on display until 13 July.
