Ahly's influential defender Badr Benoun has tested positive for coronavirus, the club's football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said on Wednesday.

"Benoun will have another nasal swab test after four days," Abdel-Hafiz said in a television interview following Ahly's 2-1 victory over Wadi Degla, which took them to the top of the Egyptian Premier League table.

The 27-year-old, who was not available against Degla, will now at least miss two league games against Ceramica Cleopatra and Ismaily.

Benoun has established himself as one of Ahly's key players since joining last year from Moroccan side Raja.

He won the African Champions League and African Super Cup this season with the Red Devils.
