The 29th edition of the Citadel Festival for Music and Songs will offer over 30 performances staged at the historic Citadel of Salah Al-Din after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Scheduled to take place between 15 and 30 August, the festival returns after its 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The upcoming festival will include performances ranging between orchestral and chamber formations, between traditional troupes and bands offering rock, jazz, classical Oriental repertoire, traditional, folkloric performances, between musicians specialising in religious chants and Western light classical music, among many other genres.

Two concerts are planned for each evening, one starting at 8pm and one at 10pm.

The musicians in the festival's programme include: Talents Development Centre (an educational body operating under the Cairo Opera House), Cairo Celebration Orchestra, Mai Farouk, Hani Shaker, Nadia Mustafa, Nouran Abotaleb, Hisham Abbas, Dina El-Wedidi, Said El-Artist, Hala Roshdi, Nesma Mahgoub, Hazem Shahi, Ali El-Haggar, Mohamed Mohsen among others.

Since its inauguration in 1989, the aim of the Citadel Festival for Music and Songs has been to bring music to people who might not be interested in attending formal concerts. Throughout the years, the festival has grown, presenting concerts at numerous venues located at the Citadel including The Panorama Theatre, Seret El-Gabal and El-Mahka Theatre.

Every year, the summer breeze of these open-air performances attracts hundreds of audiences from all walks of life.
