Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane heaped praise on Brighton’s South African winger Percy Tau, who is reportedly on the verge of joining the Red Devils this summer, comparing him to Argentina’s legendary Lionel Messi.
Reports suggest that the Cairo giants have reached a final agreement with the Premier League side concerning moving Tau to Ahly in this summer transfer window, however, no official statement has been made as of yet.
“Any coach in Africa would want to have Tau in his team,” Mosimane said during an Instagram live stream on Monday.
“He is like Messi; he has a lot to show. He can do new things every week and, if possible, I would like him to join Ahly — if we can afford it, of course.”
The South African coach believes his compatriot should consider his future with Brighton, as he is not getting much play time with the Premier League side.
“He’s 28 now, and he should show the world what he can do, as he doesn’t get playtime where he is now,” Mosimane said.
The 28-year-old joined Brighton in the summer of 2018 from South African giants Sundowns, where he played under the guidance of Ahly’s current coach Mosimane.
He was loaned for three spells to Belgian sides Union SG, Club Brugge, and Anderlecht, respectively, before returning in January to Brighton, where he made six appearances.
“He should come to play with the team that participated in the FIFA Club World Cup and faced Bayern Munich.”
On the international level, Tau played 25 matches with Bafana Bafana, scoring 12 goals in total.
