Dortmund lead second-placed Hanover 96 by 12 points after 18 matches whilst Bayern are fifth, a massive 16 points adrift of the leaders after last weekend's matches which marked the resumption of league action following its winter break.
Gomez, who has scored 12 league goals for Bayern this season and 20 in all competitions, said Bayern's draw with Wolfsburg and Dortmund's defeat of Bayer Leverkusen had ended the debate.
"Hopes of finishing first have been dimmed a little bit more after the weekend matches," Gomez told specialist magazine Kicker.
"We don't even need to talk about it.
"The target, was second place already before the Wolfsburg match, and that remains a realistic ambition."
