The security of the Gulf region is one of the main pillars of the Arab national security, and is closely linked to the Egyptian national security, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi told Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah on Saturday.
El-Sisi’s comments came during a meeting with Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, which is set to start later in the day.
El-Sisi and Al-Sabah agreed to maintain joint efforts to enhance cooperation and coordination among Arab countries to face the growing challenges and threats to regional security and the stability of Arab countries and peoples, Egypt’s Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Rady revealed that they exchanged views on the most prominent files on the regional arena, and the discussions reflected a mutual understanding of ways to deal with these files.
El-Sisi highlighted the close relations binding the two brotherly countries, and Egypt’s keenness to develop the mutual distinguished cooperation at various levels in an effort to consolidate security, stability and development in the region, Rady said.
The Egyptian-Kuwaiti cooperation and coordination towards developments in the Middle East represent a mainstay for achieving regional stability, and a major pillar of the priorities and constants of the Egyptian policy, El-Sisi said.
The Kuwaiti premier, from his side, emphasised the depth and strength of the historical relations that unite the two countries, lauding the role of the Egyptian community in Kuwait in the construction and development process in the country as a bridge of interdependence between the two brotherly peoples.
Al-Sabah stressed Kuwait’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Egypt at all levels, and to consult and coordinate with Cairo periodically on various issues, appreciating in this context Egypt's pivotal role in the region as a fundamental pillar for the security and stability of the Arab world, the statement said.
