Newly-arrived South African winger Percy Tau sustained a muscle injury during national team duty in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and he is expected to be out of action for three weeks, according to reports in the Egyptian media.

The South African winger left the field during the 1-0 win over Ghana in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers last week due to the muscle injury.

The loss of 27-year-old Percy Tau could be a major blow for Ahly in the crunch showdown against Talae El-Geish in Egypt's Super Cup on 21 September.

African Champions Ahly signed left-winger Percy Tau on a four-year contract coming from English Premier league side Brighton.

Percy Tau started his professional career with the Sundowns in 2013 and claimed seven trophies with the South African team over five seasons including the 2016 African Champions League title and the 2017 African Super Cup.

He was named the South African League top scorer in the 2017-18 season with 11 goals.

Tau joined English Premier League outfit Brighton in the summer transfer window of the 2018 season before he was loaned to Belgian team Union SG in the second division where he scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists to claim the best player in the Belgian league.
