Afghan central bank says money transfer allowed in local currency only

The sources said that the decision has been taken so that the central bank can save enough amount of US dollars which has been less currently

The central bank of Afghanistan-De Afghanistan Bank- in a new directive said that any money transfer to Afghanistan should be conducted in local currency-Afghani- only, Khaama Press reported Sunday.

Sources with the bank said all the private banks are prohibited to receive money by any other currency including dollars.

Those who have transferred dollars prior to the directive can receive dollars.

The sources said that the decision has been taken so that the central bank can save enough amount of US dollars which has been less currently.

Based on the new directive, if people transfer money in any other currency, the receiver will merely be given the local currency in Afghanistan.

Banking services in Afghanistan have become one of the toughest tasks as people are limited to $200 per week only.

Hundreds of people are still being seen queuing at the gates of banks so that they withdraw money
