The Israeli army said on Monday it hit four Hamas compounds used for military training, in addition to a weapons workshop and the entrance to an underground tunnel, The Times of Israel reported.
Palestinians fired a rocket from the Gaza Strip into Israel early Monday morning, the second in several hours. Both rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome system, the army spokesman said.
The Israeli army said the strikes were in retaliation for the rocket that was fired earlier on Sunday night, marking the third consecutive night of rocket fire in southern Israel.
Following the second rocket, the Israel airforce hit several more Hamas targets, including a heavy machine that tried to down the aircraft, the army said.
Earlier Sunday, rocket attack sirens wailed throughout Israeli communities near the Gaza border as well as in Sderot, sending thousands running for bomb shelters.
