The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced that Portuguese Carlos Queiroz will be making his first appearance as head coach of Egypt’s National Team in an event on Thursday, a statement read on the EFA’s social media accounts.

According to the statement, the induction will take place in the EFA’s headquarters at 1pm Cairo time, with Queiroz set to hold his first press conference during his first training camp with the national team.

The 68-year-old tactician was chosen as Egypt’s new coach on Wednesday 8 September, two days after the sacking of his predecessor, Hossam El-Badry.

El-Badry failed to noticeably improve the Pharaohs’ performance during his two-year tenure at the helm of the national team despite reaching the finals of the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Egypt have fallen to second place in their World Cup qualifying group with four points, two behind leaders Libya.

Queiroz will be starting his mission with a crucial double header against the north African neighbour in October.

This is Queiroz’ sixth stab at being a national team coach, with his previous experience being with Portugal, South Africa, the UAE, Iran, and Colombia. He has managed to lead his former teams to the World Cup four times already, and he hopes to replicate the feat for a record fifth time with Egypt.
