Egypt condemned on Tuesday the failed attempt at a coup d’état Sudan witnessed earlier in the day in a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

“Egypt asserts its support for the rule of the transitional institutions in Sudan as well as their tireless efforts to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people at this important stage in the country’s history,” the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

Sudanese authorities reported an attempt at a coup on Tuesday by a group of soldiers loyal to ousted President Omar Al-Bashir, but later said that the attempt failed and that the military remains under control.

The foreign ministry also stated that the people and the government of Egypt affirm their keenness on the stability, security, and development of Sudan, rejecting any attempt that would hinder this stability or obstruct the country’s development efforts.

This comes, the ministry says, within the framework of the shared destiny and eternal bonds that unite the two peoples of the Nile Valley.
