Tunisian President Kais Saied ordered the lifting of a two-months-old nationwide overnight curfew for people and vehicles starting midnight Saturday, 25 September, while asking citizens to continue to observe anti-coronavirus precautionary measures.

According to a Tunisian presidency statement on Friday, the president said the decision was taken "after consulting the Ministry of Health and the Covid-19 pandemic management committee."

On 26 July, Saied ordered a nationwide overnight curfew between 7pm and 6am amid a growing coronavirus crisis in the country.

The curfew decision came one day after he dismissed the prime minister and froze parliament.

The nationwide curfew mandated a ban on inter-city travel as well as gatherings of more than three people in public spaces.
