Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has asserted the importance of stabilizing the situation in Libya at a meeting of Libya's neighboring countries on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Shoukry underlined the role that Libya's neighboring countries could play to help reach a comprehensive settlement that preserves Libya's sovereignty away from any foreign interference, the Egyptian foreign ministry said on Saturday
He stressed in the meeting the necessity of holding the elections in Libya as scheduled as a key step to maintain stability in the North African country.
The Egyptian foreign minister also continued his meetings with top diplomats and officials from around the globe.
He held meetings on Friday with the foreign ministers of Brazil, Senegal, Norway, Portugal and Malta.
Shoukry also held a meeting on Friday with his Syrian counterpart Faisal al-Mekdad where they discussed means of resolving the crisis in Syria.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Ahmed Hafez tweeted that the talks took place at the headquarters of the Egyptian mission in New York.
