"At the beginning of each legislative season, senators should elect one head, two deputies, and one secretary-general for each of the chamber's 14 committees," Senate speaker Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek said.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Alaa Eddin Fouad said the contribution of the Senate to political life and the legislative process is very constructive.
"The constitutional role of the senate will also be important in the coming period because it leads to building Egypt's legislative system in an integrated way," said Fouad.
The majority party of Mostaqbal Watan dominated the election of the leading posts of the Senate's 14 committees on Wednesday.
The following is a complete list of senators elected as chairmen of the 14 committees:
Foreign, Arab and African Affairs Committee: Abdel-Hai Ebeid.
Religious and Waqf Affairs: Youssef El-Sayed Amer.
Defence and National Security: Osama Montasser (replacing Osama El-Guindi)
The Health and Population Committee: Mohamed Gazzar.
The Human Rights and Social Solidarity Committee: Mohamed Hiba.
Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Resources: Abdel-Salam El-Gabaly.
Housing, Local Administration and Transport: Khaled Mohamed Saeed.
The Sports and Youth Committee: businessman Ahmed Abu Hashima (replacing journalist Ibrahim Hegazy). Abu Hashima is chairman of the Republican People's Party.
Education, Scientific Research, Telecommunication and Information Technology: Nabil Dibis.
The Industry, Trade, and Small-scale Enterprises Committee: Mohamed Halawa.
The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee: Hani Sarieddin (a leading member of the Wafd Party).
The Energy, Environment and Labour Force Committee: Abdel-Khaleq Ayad.
The Legislative and Constitutional Affairs Committee: Abdallah Al-Assar.
The Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Media Committee: Mahmoud Mossallam.
The Senate comprises 300 members, 200 elected and 100 appointed by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. The Senate also includes 30 women, or 10 percent of the total, as stipulated by the constitution.
Senate speaker Abdel-Razek said the chamber's second plenary meetings will be held on 24 October.
