Egypt supports UN efforts to find political settlement to Syrian crisis, says FM

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated Thursday Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at working out a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated on Thursday Egypt's support for all efforts to work out a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis, 

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Shoukry voiced Egypt’s support for the UN efforts to find a political settlement to the Syrian crisis in accordance with international resolutions in a meeting with United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen in Cairo, 

Pedersen, who is on a visit to Cairo, also met on Thursday with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul-Gheit.

Abul-Gheit asserted during the meeting that Syria should maintain its independence and integrity as an Arab country, and that the continuation of foreign interference in Syria will further complicate the crisis and extend its duration.

Abul-Gheit also stressed the necessity of attracting attention to the seriousness of the humanitarian situation in Syria as a result of the continuation of the crisis.
