Young Pharaohs benefited from Toulon friendly tournament despite failing to move beyond group stage, coach claims

Egypt Olympic coach Hany Ramzy has said his team benefitted from the friendly tournament in Toulon despite winning only one of three matches.

The team beat Japan 3-2 on Sunday in their final group match but were eliminated from the tournament on goal difference.

Ramzy praised his players' performance in the tournament and asked them to avoid the same mistakes in July's London Olympics.

"We were close to beating Japan by more goals and we played well throughout the game," Ramzy told Modern Sport after the game.

"We played three different teams and the tournament will benefit our performance at the London Games," he added.

At the tournament, the young Pharaohs lost the opener 3-0 to the Netherlands, drew with Turkey 1-1 and beat Japan 3-2.

"Our target for the tournament was to play well, not necessarily get results... I asked the players to take their chances to find the net," Ramzy concluded.
