With the groovy arrangement of Disco Misr duo Amr Emad and Mostafa ElSherif, Keify Keda has attracted almost two million viewers on YouTube in a few days, thanks to the colourful photography that is full of the energising choreography of young director Khaled Mokhtar.

Keify Keda has been one of the most favourite sounds for TikTok and Instagram stories in recent weeks with thousands of famous accounts giving impressions and lip-syncing to its catchy and challenging flow of Arabic lyrics.

Followed by almost two million fans on each platform, the 1998-born rapper has gained huge popularity in two years, releasing many successful video clips of his rapping in arrangements that mix Western hip-hop with Egyptian Mahraganat sounds.

The success of the 2019 summer hit Bazeet, produced by DJ Totti, gave Wegz a big boost into the mainstream. Movie stars like Mohamed Henedy, Maged El-Kedwany, Ahmed Malek, and Ruby performed Bazeet in several TV jingles.

A year later, Molotof’s recipe for Dorak Gai put Wegz among the top 2020 summer hits, passing the Egyptian borders with almost 80 million viewers on YouTube so far.

Among Wegz’s highlights are Salka, a duet with Mahraganat singer Hassan Shakoosh of Bent El-Geran, as well as El-Ghasala ("The Washing Machine"), the theme of a comedy film under the same name, starring Mahmoud Hemeida, directed by Essam Abdel-Hamid, and produced by Synergy.

Wegz’s last performance was at El Gouna Film Festival last week, attracting the festival’s visitors who sang along with his lyrics. Wegz was able to draw attention with his odd suits on the red carpet.

Hailed frequently by acclaimed artists and critics, Wegz is among the most popular rappers of his generation besides Marwan Pablo, Marwan Moussa, Afroto, Batistuta, and other youngsters who have been dominating the rap scene in Egypt in recent years, side by side with active older players like Shahyn, Abyusif and El-Joker.

Other trending releases of the week include pop star Hamaki’s latest album Ya Fateny.
