The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Egypt is set to launch 'Generation Unlimited' global initiative in Egypt to support the country’s 2030 national development vision, tapping into the potential of youth and advancing entrepreneurship, the Ministry of International Cooperation announced.

The announcement was made during a meeting held on Sunday between Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat and the UNICEF Representative in Egypt Jeremy Hopkins to review the ongoing development cooperation portfolio.

This global initiative aims to be a multi-sector partnership to meet the urgent need for expanded education, training and employment opportunities for young people.

The meeting addressed the roadmap and the main proposals for developing Egypt's future strategic partnership with the UN under the umbrella of the United Nations Partnership Development Framework (UNPDF) 2023-2027.

During the meeting, Al-Mashat said that UNICEF has implemented several joint programs with the government to combat the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, involving cooperation with different stakeholders in the private and public sectors and civil society.

For his part, Hopkins expressed his aspiration to cooperate with the Ministry of International Cooperation and Egypt’s relevant authorities, to further support national efforts directed towards protecting children and empowering girls and youth.

“UNICEF works in partnership with the government to establish the Strategic Partnership Framework from 2023 to 2027, which aligns with the national priorities, especially the social safety net program 'Takaful and Karama,' as well as the 'Decent Life' Presidential Initiative… It will focus more on providing support to Upper Egypt, the most vulnerable groups, and persons of disabilities, as well as the youth and girls,” Hopkins said.

Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation launched earlier this year a series of national consultation meetings to tackle the new strategic partnership framework between the Egyptian government and the UN between 2023 and 2027.

The purpose of these meetings is to address the main pillars of cooperation over this time, and to discuss means of consolidating national priorities through future programs and projects with the UN, with the participation of the relevant stakeholders  including UN agencies.
