Ittihad stage thrilling 3-goal comeback to draw 4-4 against Smouha in league opening

Ittihad of Alexandria’s striker Agostinho Mabululu scored a 95th-minute equaliser as they fought back from three goals down to draw 4-4 against Smouha in their opening match of the Egyptian Premier League on Monday

Smouha raced into a 3-0 lead inside the first half as Seddik Kalaba opened the scoring in the 12th minute, Marwan Hamdi added the second goal in the 18th minute, and the third goal came by Mohamed Shoukry in the 38th minute, before Ittihad coming back from the dead after the break.

Ittihad midfielder Karim El Dieb, who was introduced in the game in the 43rd minute, pulled one back from a penalty kick five minutes after the break.

Smouha’s Hussein Faisal restored their three-goal lead, 4-1, just three minutes later to put them in front of a mountain to climb. And they did.

Fawzi El-Hennawi made it 4-2 powered a header at the far post in the 73rd minute, then Burkinabe midfielder Saidou Simpore closed the gap after making no mistakes from the penalty spot in the 89th minute. 

The Angolan substitute striker Mabululu completed Ittihad’s dramatic Remontada in the fifth minute of the stoppage time scoring the equaliser from a glancing header.

Both Alexandrian teams Ittihad and Smouha have collected their first point in the Egyptian Premier League after Monday’s draw, which may tell how the rivalry in the new season will be.
