16' Ahly go ahead through a fortuitous goal! Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng creates space for himself on the edge of the area and sends a shot that deflects off a couple of defenders to loop goalwards, strike the bar and bounces off the back of keeper Abou-Gabal and into the net.

9' Zamalek go close! A swift exchange sees Bencharki collects the ball in the area but his low cross is pushed out by the keeper for a corner. 

7' No threats so far as both sides look for openings. 

4' The corner causes mayhem in the Zamalek area but the defence eventually clears.

16:00 Zamalek were forced to start the new season with the same squad as they suffer from FIFA sanctions over outstanding payments to former players and coaches, while Ahly splashed the cash in the summer transfer window with signing new talented players like South African forward Percy Tau and Mozambican winger Luis Miquissone so coach Carteron has tipped the Red devils to win the anticipated Cairo derby.

15:00 Ahly's international keeper Mohamed El-Shennawy, has been cleared fit for the game after making a quick recovery from a hamstring injury he sustained in mid-October during national team duty against Libya in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

14:00 Zamalek coach Patrice Carteron will count on his two in-form wingers Achraf Bencharki and Ahmed Sayed Zizo, who made superb performances since the start of the season. He is also expected to make use of the cemented defence of midfielder Tarek Hamed and defenders Mahmoud Hamdi El-Wench and Hamza El-Mathlouthi to isolate Ahly's frontlines.
