The CAPMAS figures also showed that the population has reached 9 million in Giza governorate, and more than 7 million in Sharqia.

Egypt’s population at home reached in July 102 million, with an average increase of 3,636 people per day between October 2020 and July 2021, CAPMAS said in a previous statement.

In nine months and five days, the population increased by one million, CAPMAS added.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi highlighted in February the need for the country to lower the annual population growth rate to 400,000 in order for citizens to reap the fruits of development efforts.

El-Sisi at the time warned of the risks of overpopulation, saying that "unprecedented population growth is Egypt's biggest challenge."

Earlier in February, Egypt’s official statistics agency expected the population to reach 119.8 million by 2030, equal to the census of 15 European countries.

Last year, the president warned that the population is expected to increase to around 193-194 million citizens by 2050, saying this requires the state to double its infrastructure projects during the coming 30 years.
