The decision, based on the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, is meant to empower women and give them the opportunity to join leadership and decision-making positions, Amer added.

Egypt's banking sector is replete with professional women, he noted.

The decision is part of a host of administrative amendments the CBE issued regarding the formation of bank boards and the responsibilities assigned to board chairmen and managing directors.
