The Avenue of the Sphinxes stretches 2,700 metres between the ancient Karnak and Luxor temples with hundreds of ram-headed statues, and sphinxes statues on both sides.

Authorities have carried out major restoration work on the road and the temples of Karnak and Luxor over the recent months.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has invited foreign ambassadors in Egypt and a number of public figures to attend the ceremony, according to media reports.

The reopeninng of the Avenue of Sphinxes comes as Egypt embarks on various major projects to restore historic sites and promote tourism.

Last year, Egypt inaugurated the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization with a spectacular Pharaohs’ Golden Parade that transfered 22 mummies from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to their new home.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi recently directed officials to use the planned reopening ceremony to promote the country's soft power internationally.

El-Sisi stressed that Luxor – which has often been called the world's greatest open-air museum – reflects the richness and glory of Egypt's ancient civilization.
