World Children's Day is celebrated with a specific theme each year to promote awareness among children about their rights.
This year, the main focus is to help children to recover from interruptions in learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years.
Marat Gatin, the director of the Russian Cultural Centres in Egypt, congratulated children in Russia and Egypt on their day and stressed that Russia shows great interest in children, including through holding a variety of educational and sports activities for them under the supervision of specialized teachers.
He added that "there are a number of artistic competitions designed especially for children to discover their different artistic talents."
Nada Mahmoud, the head of the children's department at the Russian House, together with Marwa Khalil, the administrative official in the Languages Department, supervised the workshop.
World Children’s Day is celebrated every year on 20 November with the goal of improving the welfare of children across the globe. The day also promotes international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and eagerness to improve children's welfare.
The date marks the day United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child on 20 November 1959.
On the same date, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
The date of observing children's day varies from country to country between 1 June and 20 November.
1 June is called International Children’s Day, while 20 November is referred to as World Children’s Day or Universal Children’s Day.
