President Sisi ratifies law on divulging state secrets

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has ratified a law amending some provisions of the penal code with regards to divulging state secrets.

Under the new amendments, violators face imprisonment of six months to five years and a fine of EGP 5,000 to EGP 50,000.

Under the law, offenders include those who obtain by illegal means the country’s defense secrets and/or reveal these secrets.

The decree was published in the Gazette out Monday.

The parliament approved the amendments late October.
