The ministry has been engaged in a project to digitize its booking services and develop services provided to visitors at 30 museums and archaeological sites across Egypt.
The e-ticketing system was first applied at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Giza Plateau.
Khaled Sherif, assistant to the tourism minister for digitisation, pointed out that visitors to Karnak and Luxor temples can reserve tickets at the temples’ ticketing kiosks and pay through credit cards.
This is the first phase of the project. After the Luxor celebration, electronic gates will be set up at the entrances to the temples.
Luxor is gearing up to host a glamorous ceremony to reopen the 2,700-metre-long ancient walkway that links the ancient Egyptian temples of Luxor and Karnak on Thursday.
The reopening of the Avenue of Sphinxes comes as the country prepares Luxor to be one of the world’s largest open-air museums.
