The plan was announced in a joint press statement by Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh and his Egyptian counterpart Mohamed Shaker after a meeting in which they discussed plans to expand the electrical interconnection between the two countries and prospects for opening new energy markets to import and export electricity.
Kharabsheh said that the agreement will help expand the electrical systems in the two countries to reach new markets and reduce costs, pointing out that within two months, bids will be launched to implement the Jordanian electrical connection with Iraq.
Furthermore, Shaker said that Egypt has an ambitious plan to raise the generation of electricity from renewable energy to 35 percent by 2035.
He added that the electric interconnection project with Jordan will enhance the electric energy exchange system in the region.
