The exhibition, which runs for four days, saw the participation of over 400 international companies working in defence and military industries representing 42 countries, including the US, France, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

El-Sisi said the high turnout at the fair reflects its significance, the strenuous efforts exerted in the organisation of the expo and the weight of the participating companies.

Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki said the four-day event enables manufacturing companies to feature armament and defence systems and the latest developments in military production and industrialisation.

The expo has created a sophisticated military gathering to present innovations, trade expertise, and promote military development and military production relations between countries, Minister Zaki noted.

"The reality on the ground has revealed that peace needs potentials and capabilities to be protected and maintained," the defence minister said during the inauguration ceremony.

He stressed that "the Egyptian Armed Forces are still the safe fortress" that protects the nation, adding that "Egypt's endeavours to possess potentials [for power] are meant to safeguard its security and peace."

Following the inauguration, President El-Sisi watched a documentary produced by the Armed Forces on Egypt's second EDEX under the rubric Egypt’s Strength and Peace.

El-Sisi also toured the EDEX pavilions, where he was briefed on the military and defence products showcased by participating companies.

The fair, held at Egypt International Convention and Exhibition Centre in New Cairo under the patronage of El-Sisi, is the only tri-service defence and military industries exhibition in North Africa.

The event is seen as an opportunity to exchange expertise between professionals from leading international and local bodies in the field of armament systems and defense and military industries.

"The EDEX was President El-Sisi’s dream to place Egypt on the map of countries that organise military exhibitions," the country's Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsi told a presser on Saturday.

Some 300,000 visitors are expected to attend the event, the minister added.
