Parental approval is “essential and needed” for the vaccination of 12 to 15-year-old minors against COVID-19, said the spokesperson for Egypt’s health ministry Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar on Monday.

Abdel-Ghaffar also said that registration on the official coronavirus vaccination website in Egypt will be open starting 1 December for those between 12 and 15 years old.

The government issued the green light on Sunday for vaccinating 12 to 15-year-olds using the Pfizer vaccine, which comes shortly following its decision earlier this month to approve vaccination for teens aged 15 to 18.

The government aims to vaccinate 40 million people by the end of 2021.

Acting health minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar said on Sunday that Egypt has so far administrated 45.2 million vaccine doses: 29.6 million first doses and 15.6 million second doses.
