The initiative was launched in July 2019 under the auspices of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said.

The initiative aims to raise awareness about women's reproductive health and family planning, and provides free breast cancer examinations for women above the age of 18.

The initiative, which aims to screen a total of 28 million women nationwide, was launched as part of the 100 Million Health Initiative, which screened over 60 million people for hepatitis C. 

Abdel-Ghaffar stressed the importance of periodic follow-up for women to get the benefit of all the initiative's services, and that over 1.5 million text messages have been sent to urge women to take their periodic tests and monitor their health condition.

The initiative has also received 117,486 calls from women through the hotline 15335, the spokesperson said.

Ahmed Morsy, the initiative's executive director, says that 3,538 clinics are providing examinations for women as part of the initiative, in addition to 114 hospitals providing services for women who requires advanced examination.

Through the initiative’s website, Morsy said, women can locate their nearest clinics.

Morsy also revealed that 14 health ministry-affiliated centres are providing cutting-edge breast cancer treatment under the initiative, and that the same services are offered at 13 new hospitals affiliated with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals.

President El-Sisi said in July 2021 that the state pays “special” attention to women while drawing up its coronavirus policies, which is “out of the country’s awareness that women are the most affected groups when such crises occur.”

In addition to supporting women’s health via the related presidential initiatives, the country has also developed financial and economic policies to further empower women economically and create job opportunities for irregular female workers, the president noted.
