The committee will be chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries, a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry said without mentioning the exact date of the committee.

Ambassador Alaa Moussa, assistant to Egypt’s foreign minister for Arab affairs, and Sami bin Abdullah Al-Saleh, assistant Saudi minister of state for African affairs chaired Thursday’s preparatory meeting.

The two sides affirmed the need to continue enhancing Egyptian-Saudi relations at all levels in a way that meets the two countries’ aspirations, the ministry statement read.

The meeting also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern and touched on the current challenges facing the region, according to the statement.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan chaired the latest meeting of the political consultation committee in Riyadh in December last year.

During the committee’s last meeting, the two sides voiced rejection of regional interference in the domestic affairs of Arab countries and highlighted the centrality of the Palestinian cause.

They called for ensuring safe navigation in Arab waters and the need to preserve Libyan stability and territorial unity.

The two sides also called for enhancing economic cooperation and agreed on intensifying coordination regarding the pandemic.

During last year’s meeting, the Egyptian side confirmed solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all measures to protect its national security.

The Saudi side also affirmed support to Egypt’s endeavours to reach a binding agreement on the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in a bid to resolve the dispute between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia.
