French coach Claude Leroy has praised striker Dieumerci Mbokani following his goal in Sunday’s DR Congo 2-0 win over Togo in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, and expressed his satisfaction concerning the result of the game.
“Thanks to Dieumerci Mbokani. He played an excellent game. I made great efforts to let him return to the team and he proved that he deserved those efforts,” Leroy told Radio Okabi on Monday.
The Anderlecht striker had been excluded from the team by former coach Robert Nouzaret on 27 March 2011, after he protested about being on the bench during the Leopards' 3-0 win over Mauritius.
“I regretted his absence from our game against Cameroon on day one of the qualifiers," Leroy added.
The DR Congo lost to Cameroon 1-0 in Yaoundé on the Group I opener, one week ago.
The Frenchman expressed his delight concerning the Leopards' win, added that they got the best possible result.
“We made a great result. I want to thank the players for their determination and their performance."
