The announcement was made during Minister of Education Tarek Shawki’s participation in a ceremony to unveil the 2021 GKI at Expo 2020 Dubai, the Ministry of Education said in a statement on Monday.
The event was organised by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in cooperation with Mohammad bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.
Produced annually since 2017 by the UNDP, the GKI is a summarised measure for tracking the level of knowledge within countries in seven areas, including pre-university education, technical and vocational training, higher education, research, development and innovation, information and communications technology, and the economy and the general enabling environment.
Egypt has recently introduced a host of modifications to its pre-university education system, including the elementary and secondary stages, in several ways, most notably the examination styles.
The new system aims to gauge students’ critical thinking skills and end the culture of prioritising memorisation over understanding, according to education officials.
