Egypt Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri has met minister of the Interior Mohamed Ibrahim to discuss resuming domestic football competitions.

All domestic football activities were suspended since the Port Said Stadium tragedy at the beginning of February that saw over 70 Ahly fans killed, and the injury of hundreds following a league game with Masry.

Since the events at Port Said, fans are not allowed to attend any games or enter a stadium.

Late in March, the interior ministry listed a series of security precautions including video surveillance equipment in all stadia, metal detectors, drawn plans to ensure safe emergency exits and other measures to end any crowd trouble.

The National Sports Council has announced it will finance these required measures and El-Ganzouri is following the progress of the implementation of the plans to ensure the revival of this crucial sector that has been severely damaged all over the past six months. Football is a major industry in Egypt and a growing market with involving more than 3 million people and billions of Egyptian pounds of investment.
