The Academy did not reveal details regarding a possible host for the event scheduled to take place on 27 March.

Following Kevin Hart's resignation from hosting 2019 Academy Awards, after being criticized for anti-gay tweets, the Oscars were hostless in 2019. As such, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences broadcast the Academy Awards without a host for the first time since 1989. The practice continued for another two years, replacing the host with "huge entertainment values, big musical numbers, comedy, and star power", as described by ABC entertainment president Karey Burke. 

The 94th Academy Awards ceremony will be directed by Glenn Weiss who has plenty of experience directing numerous live televised events, including six previous Oscars shows, for which he won two Primetime Emmys, and 20 Tony Awards shows, which earned him three directing Primetime Emmys.

In December 2021, the Academy revealed the shortlisted films in all categories. Nominations for all categories for the 94th Oscars will be announced on 8 February. The Oscars ceremony and announcement of the winners will take place on 27 March and will air live on ABC and broadcast outlets worldwide.
