El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s denouncement of this terrorist act, asserting his country’s support and solidarity with the UAE and the steps and measures it takes to defend its territories and citizens, the presidency said in a statement.
The president asserted that the UAE’s security and stability is connected to Egypt’s national security, pointing to the strong brotherly and historical relations between the two countries and their peoples.
Yemen's Houthi group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place near storage facilities of the state oil firm ADNOC, describing it as an attack deep inside the UAE, Reuters reported.
Three people were killed and six others are suffering from mild to medium injuries due to the blasts, Emirati news agency WAM cited Abu Dhabi police as saying. The deaths were two Indians and one Pakistani national.
The fires started in the Musaffah area and at a site near Abu Dhabi International airport, the police said.
Egypt’s foreign ministry announced also on Tuesday that the Emirati Foreign Ministry informed the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi that there are two Egyptian citizens among the injured of Monday’s attack.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry’s statement, Ambassador Sherif El-Bidewy contacted the two citizens and checked on their health where they told him they were receiving medical care and they were fine. The ambassador is going to visit them on Wednesday, the Ministry added.
Preliminary investigations into the attack reveal that the fires and blasts were caused by small flying objects, probably drones, the police said, noting that the relevant Emirati authorities have launched an investigation.
The Houthi militia has launched thousands of missiles against Saudi Arabia over the past seven years, since a Saudi-led coalition that includes the UAE intervened in the Yemeni civil war to fight the Houthis.
The militia, however, has claimed few attacks on the UAE.
