Renowned Egyptian cinematographer Maher Rady dies at age 76

The Film Professions Syndicate announced the passing of the Egyptian cinematographer Maher Rady, 76, on Thursday.

Born on 10 October 1945, Rady was among the leading directors of photography of his generation. In 1990, he was awarded the State Encouragement Award for Cinematography.

He also received several film awards, including the Best Film Award in the Alexandria Film Festival for his film ‘Dantella’ (1997) and the Cinematography Award for his work in ‘Honour’ 2001.

Moreover, he received the first prize from the Ministry of Culture and from the eighth National Festival of Egyptian Cinema for his work in the film ‘Memoirs of a Teenager’ (2002).

His other significant works included ‘Night Chat’ (1999), ‘Zeyaret El-Sayed El-Rais’ (1994), ‘Seas of Thirst’ (1980), ‘El-Gaheem’ (1980), ‘To Move into Depth’ (1979).

Before his passing, Rady taught visual image techniques and aesthetics at the Cinema Institute in Cairo.
