El-Husseiny’s family found her body on a rooftop in the northern governorate with a piece of cloth wrapped out her neck and failed to resuscitate her, the prosecution said in a statement on Thursday.

El-Husseiny, 21, was a student at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Kafr El-Sheikh University. El-Husseiny was honoured by the sports ministry after her team, Desouk Sporting Club, won the title in the Egypt-invented racquet sport of speedball in 2016 in Poland.

El-Husseiny died in the hospital, police told the prosecution on Monday. Signs of injuries were found on her body and around her neck, the police report said.

The prosecution arrested the accused man following an investigation. The accused confessed to the crime, saying he followed the victim, took her to her parent’s rooftop, and stole her gold earrings and mobile phone.

While trying to flee, he grabbed her headscarf forcibly, which became entangled around her neck, leading her to fall to the floor.

The accused then fled the scene, the prosecution said.

El-Husseiny’s parents told the prosecution that an unknown person had called them using their daughter’s phone and tried to mislead them about her whereabouts, before telling them her actual location.
